Rest and Recovery

Well, this week was an R&R week and boy did I need it.  To be honest I did not even want to get on the bike on Monday and by the end of the ride today I felt absolutely great!

Part of training is to listen to your coach and body.  Today was a great example.  The goal today was to ride an easy 3hrs with the goal feeling as if I could do more when I was done. Take a look below and as you can see the ride today was basically flat, the speed slow, and the effort medium.  Perfect.

I came across this article by Elizabeth Quinn entitled: Rest and Recovery After Exercise - Improve Sports Performance
Here is her introduction, "Most athletes know that getting enough rest after exercise is essential to high-level performance, but many still over train and feel guilty when they take a day off. The body repairs and strengthens itself in the time between workouts, and continuous training can actually weaken the strongest athletes."
